Hi I’m Rhianna and I’m a peer educator at Getaway Girls. In July we had the First Women’s Lives Leeds Girls and Young women’s forum. 22 girls came from all different background. The session was facilitated by Ripa, Sharandeep and me. We are all part of Global Girls campaigning group at Getaway Girls. There was interpreting for young women who spoke Arabic. It was a chance for girls to meet together to discuss issues that matter to us. We started off with some fun, DJing , listening to music, chatting and having snacks. We played some icebreaker games that helped…

So we went to London to visit those wonderful people at Comic Relief to gain some new skills. It’s really apt that we were right next door to the MI5 building as the reason we went is all really hush hush at the moment! (We have a fab new project COMING VERY SOON that we’ll be telling you all about….so watch this space over the next few weeks!) Anyway, we had a totally fab day learning loads of new stuff, including how to make short films (so expect us to be really whizzy at it in future ha ha!). As…

As part of my placement, during the summer holidays, I helped with the Getaway girls pamper session. In this session there were many different activities taking place for all of the girls to get involved in. These activities included henna, hair braiding, massages, glitter tattoos, nail painting, stress ball making, face painting, fruit kebabs, making smoothies and flip flop designing.  The activities that I helped with were fruit kebab making and stress ball making. To make the stress balls the girls filled a balloon with rice and covered it with another balloon. Some girls chose to make really big ones…

I’m Katie, a student from Leeds City College. I am currently under taking a three week work placement with Getaway Girls. The reason I have chosen Getaway Girls is my goal for the future is to be a social worker. I feel like Getaway Girls would give me a good experience for the future. In the future I am wanting to become a social worker and the area I want to work with is helping families where drugs are involved. This is because drugs within the family can have negative effects on the children and I believe that all children…

On Thursday the 6th of July I went to Aspire in Leeds city centre with my work colleagues Sara and Beth, the Getaway Girls manager Flavia and Eve to attend an event called give love Leeds created by Leeds community foundation to talk about mental health, network with other charities and promote our work. That would have been another event for me but it was that one was an special one, because for this one I had made a short film talking about my experience in Mental health and my life and it would be displayed for everyone to see……

Hi, my name is Kawther.  I'm 15 and I've been coming to Getaway Girls for 2 years.  I'm currently at school, studying hard for my GCSE's as I hope to become a therapist working with teenagers one day. I really enjoy creative work, mainly writing but now I love art too and wanted to show you my self-esteem self portrait as I love it so much!

Sad to be leaving Getaway Girls after a great couple of weeks. Have really enjoyed my placement and I’ve been able to meet some amazing people. My favourite part of the placement was being given the opportunity to design and draw a Getaway Girls Mural for the charity. Huge thanks to EVERYONE for looking after me and for making me feel so welcome. Getaway Girls is AWESOME!!

Hi my name is Florrie and excited to be doing my work experience here at Getaway Girls. I’m from a small village near Peterborough, we only have a couple of shops and the nearest shopping centre is an hour bus ride away so it’s really interesting to be living in Leeds for a couple of weeks J Everyone is really nice and friendly and there is so much stuff to do. I’m looking forward to doing some art work for the charity, meeting all of the girls that go to the Getaway Girls groups and getting to know people!

Hi everyone. It’s Kizzy, better known as the work experience placement. However, unlike my other blog post about work experience, we’re not here to talk about me today. We’re talking about our event on Saturday, March 11th: STAND UP FOR GIRLS LEEDS 2017. This event was about standing up for girls… the concept isn’t too complicated. It was about promoting girls’ thoughts on issues in Leeds. At the event, we started off with stalls. There was henna, a timeline activity about women’s rights, t-shirt design, Glitter tattoos and lots more. The venue, Broadcasting Place (better known as the Rusty Building)…

Hi everyone. I’m Kizzy and I’m currently on work experience placement with Getaway Girls. So far, my work has been very mixed. My activities have included visiting primary school groups, making goody bags for our event last Saturday, doing cooking with groups and sitting in on Conversation Club, a Getaway Girls Group. I also visited the Town Hall on Wednesday for International women’s day with the rest of my colleagues. This obviously gives a wider range of experience, which is why Getaway Girls is a fantastic choice of work placement. WOW, I sound boring. It was more interesting than it sounds…
